PostSubject: Creating a BloodBowl Team   Wed 29 Aug - 14:18:49

How difficult can this be, you get 1 million and off you go??

Well, so often I have seen players fail from the offset.

Before you go spending your money on a set of BloodBowl Models (not exactly a cheap hobby) and then your 1 Million GPs on the players in the team, there are a few things you need ot do before you start.

1: Ask the most important question you can...What do I want ot do with this team?

Dont answer it with win, because that is what all teams want.

So are yo uthe player that:
:Wants to score lots of Touchdowns
:Enjoys demolishing your opponents hard earned achievements
:Prefers an all round style of play
:Wants versatility
:Gets a kick out of a challenge
:Requires th eimpossible mission

there are other questions too, like what type of models are pleasing to your eye, or what you will enjoy making and painting.

When you have had a think about this, then ask yourself, can the team you have in mind do this job without relying on allies?

Anyone who knows me, will tell you that allies are my pet hate. I'll use them, but only if there is a plausible reason to do so. If you need allies to achieve your goals, then you need to ask yourself if you have chosen the right team in the first instance. Such as why would an Orc team want a gutter runner??? If you want a gutter runner, then you should consider being a Skaven team.

Remember all teams are designed with weaknesses and strengths. If you choose a chaos team or a dwarf team then dont expect to score many touchdowns, but consider that you will cause horrific amounts of casualties. Its the price you pay, its the price your opponents pay.

For novice players I would recommend one of the following races to begin with:
Human - Good speed, average armour, diverse skills

Orc - Good Strength and high armour with reasonable speed and Agility

Dwarf - Awful speed and Agility, but very durable. High Strenghts, combined with most players starting with Block and Tackle means you will fare well in a fight. You will not be replacing players too often or suffering Missed matches. You will most likely lose the majority of your early matches, but will soon catch up as you demolish your opponents into submission

Are you a touchdown scorer?
High Elf, Elf, Wood Elf, Amazone, Skaven

Are you a bully?
Orc, Dwarf, Chaos, Ogre

Are you the All-Rounder?
Human, Dark Elf, Norse, Orc, Undead

Are you in it for a giggle?
Goblins, Halflings

Are you after a tough challenge?
Khemri, Vampire, Necromancer, Nurgle

Now you need to consider what goes into your team. Every player should consider taking a minum of 2 re-rolls, although elf players may want to opt for 1.
An apothecary is in my opinion a given.
Then start with a minimum of 2 fan factor.

If the cheapest player in your team selection is 70,000 then you should consider taking 7 players of the lowest value. That will cover half your starting cash and you now only need to find four more players. You should then take 2 blitzers (or player of equal standing) and one passer or catcher type position. If you have the surplus cash, maybe one more specialised position, otherwise just top up to 11 or 12 players with lineman.

If there is any cash left over then either keep it or put it into fan factor

The only time I break this rule is with Orcs. I always start with 4 blitzers, but then orc Lineman are only 50,000.

The rest is up to you to experiment with

Remember, how well you do can be detrmined just by what you choose at the start before a ball has been kicked in anger.

Dear Uncle Geoff, I have a team of Lizards. How does this fit in your categories above?
Mariakis Van Blinking Esq.

In for a tough challenge? Generally these teams are very difficult to get results with, owed largely to the massive gulfs between the extremeties.

There are the fast but very weak skinks, then the Strong but incompetant bloodbowl players; the Saurus. The Kroxigors are unreliable at best. it takes a master strategist and experienced player to get the best out of this choice of teams, and the results will often come at a price.

Beginner players will struggle to get much from Lizardmen teams.

Oh dear me! How upsetting. Do you think I was unwise to accept 95% performance related pay when I signed my contract? There is also a rather disturbing claus in the small print concerning eternal damnation if I fail to get promotion and some other bits that I'd rather not repeat...
